From EI, No. 25
'Four inscriptions from Phopnar Kalan' of M. Venkataramayya and C. B. Trivedi (MVCT).

In June 1964, a set of seven bronze images of the Buddha were discovered in the village Phophnar Kalan, situated at a distance of 25 km from Burhanpur, East Nimar District, Madhya Pradesh. A separate paper on these bronzes is being published in the Journal Lalit Kalа, (No. 12, pp. 16 ff.). Of these seven bronzes, only four standing Buddha images bear inscriptions on their pedestals. The characters of these four inscriptions belong to the Southern class of alphabets and they generally resemble those of the Vаkатaka epigraphs found at Ajaнта. 1 Therefore they may also be assigned to the sixth century A.D., though inscription D appears to be slightly later.
