F. Inscription on floor of the apsidal shrine, No.11, on the mound Nаharаллabодu, consisting of three long lines, 18 feet 4 inches to 19 feet in length, and of a fourth short line of 1 foot 9 inches. Average size of aksharas 5/8 to 3/4 inch. The inscription is fairly well preserved; here and there some aksharas have been lost. After a lengthy invocation of the Buddha it records the foundation of a chetiya-ghara and of various other religious edifices by an uvаsikа (Skt. upаsikа), named Bodhisiri, together with her relatives, for the benefit of the fraternities (theriya) oн the Ceylonese monks who had converted a number of countries which are enumerated at great length. Date, the fourteenth year of King Mатhariputa (=Siri-Vиrapurisadata I).

L. 1. [I would read -moha-dosasa dapita-Mаra-—Ed.] The akshara тha of Mатhariputasa is partly preserved. After this word some five or six aksharas are lost. In the absence of any traces of i strokes, the missing word cannot have been Siri-Purisadatasa. In all probability it was saмvachharaм, followed by a word expressing "fourteenth" (chodaм ?). (For . . . ta [rа]-jаcharиyаnaм) perhaps bhadaмta-rаj-аchariyаnaм ? The words which I read Yavana-Damila-Palura are not quite certain. The Da of Damila is still legible and the long-drawn top strokes of the remaining two aksharas have led me to the conjectural reading mila, the body of the akshara m being partly preserved. The Pa of Palura is conjectural.
L. 2. The akshara sa of mаtulakasa is conjectural. As the word is followed by several personal names in the genitive case, one would expect mаtulakаnaм, but the akshara ka shows no trace of an а-stroke.
L. 3. Perhaps seлa-maмдa- (for a[лaм]dа-); some ten aksharas are lost after dhaм; the akshara taм (in uvarivaмнitaм)is conjectural. Perhaps tasa; the first akshara sа (in sа]dhu-vagasa) has been restored tentatively The u-stroke of dhu is still faintly visible; the aksharas which I read achaмta- (Skt. atyanta) are indistinct.
