43-II

This inscription is engraved on a memorial pillar bearing sculptured panels, which was found in Site No. 60 in Sector IV. According to the inscription, written in three lines, the pillar was the chhаyа-stambha of Mahаsenаpati Mahаtalavara Ayabhuti (Аryabhуti). An epithet of this person seems to read Araka-Mahakoдuvaka, in which araka may stand for Sanskrit аryaka. But the meaning of Koдuvaka is uncertain though Koдuva, to which the word mahat (big) has been prefixed, may be the name of a place whence Аryabhуti hailed.

From impressions. It is A. R. Ep., 1958-59, No. B 83.
L. 1. The damaged word here may be sidhaм; the lost aksharas at the end of stk. are no doubt -varasa.
L. 2. Better read Arakasa separately from the compound.
