No. 9. Kanheri Buddhist cave inscription. Sanskrit. Buhler - letters IV-V A.D.
| The inscription is of nine lines, cut into a pilaster on the right side of the standing Buddha whlch is sculptured inside the small chamber to the left side of the entrance of the cave No. 3. It measures 19 cm. x 12 cm. Letters 3 cm. x 1.5 cm. Characters: Brаhmи 5th Century A.D. Language : Sanskrit. Orthography: The letters are written in the nail-headed variety of Brаhmи. (ShG) |

This is the only inscription at Kanheri which mentions, "May all living beings become
the Buddhas". Similar expression occurs in the Ajanta inscriptions. (ShG)
